Devon County Show

Devon County Show is the flagship event of the Devon County Agricultural Association, held in May at Westpoint near Exeter.

Within the show is a dedicated Farmwise section where we bring some of the favourite activities from the Autumn event for children to participate in. All activities are available free of charge and open to all children whether they be attending with parents, guardians or their school.

In addition to the activities there are also competitions including our yearly scarecrow competition that schools can create entries for before the show where they will then be displayed and judged.

Schools groups are able to attend the Thursday and Friday of the show with free teacher places available. For more information on the educational opportunities including the Farmwise, junior competitions and school reduced priced tickets for the show please click the below link to visit the Devon County Show website

Activities at the show

Activities at this year’s show included:

  • Daisy the cow, our trusty assistant is always at the heart of Farmwise to meet the children, who have the opportunity to milk her.
  • Butter making,- who knew butter was made with double cream and a few shakes of the hand – well quite a few shakes 😉
  • The Poo Game, did you know there was a poo cycle, and how important it is to our soil and food chain.
  • The grain story – The touch and feel grain boxes with grains that can be found growing around the county
  • Milling flour from wheat – through a number of techniques children can have a go at making flour themselves.
  • A wool display showing how wool progresses from Sheep to Sweater
  • Meet the animals – There are normally a number of common farm yard animals to be found. Never mind the animals elsewhere on the showground!
  • Ride the tractors – take a tour of our course on one of the toy tractors kindly lent to Farmwise for the show.
